Mel is Latin for honey. Zayt (زيت) is Arabic for olive oil. Melzayta is what happens when you put the two together and stop there.
We set out to make the best balm we could for skin, hands and body. That meant starting with the best oil we could find: single-origin extra virgin olive oil from Palestine. Then we asked what the least was that we could add and still make something that truly works.
The answer was beeswax. So that's what's in the tin. No water, no preservatives, no fragrance, no fillers. Just two good ingredients, done well.
Every product is made in Northeast Ohio, and every tin, tube, jar and bottle carries a batch number, so you always know exactly what you're getting.
The olive and the bee
Long before us, the olive and the bee were honored together. The Quran calls the olive a blessed tree whose oil almost glows on its own, and names an entire surah for the bee, An-Nahl. Melzayta brings the two together: oil from the olive, wax from the hive.
Lit from a blessed tree, an olive, neither of the east nor of the west, whose oil would almost glow even if no fire touched it.
An-Nur 24:35
And your Lord inspired the bee: make homes in the mountains, in the trees, and in what people build.
An-Nahl 16:68
